Environment Databases
Applications ranging from video games to architecture to flight simulators make use of a 3-D representation of the real world. This type of representation is referred to as an environment database.
Multi-Sensor
Visual out-the-window, IR (InfraRed), Radar and other sensors record different aspects of the real world. Environment databases for military applications therefore need a multi-sensor capability.
An environment database application needs to know all the characteristics of an environment. For example, what it looks like (colour, texture, shape), what each feature consists of (material code), how hot it is, how humid it is etc.. Data representation of the environment is the capability of being able to represent the total environment - both geometry and physical attributes - of the terrain, ocean, atmosphere and outer space.
